Choose for the home and the loads
The best generator for a Florida home is the one selected for that home’s electrical loads, fuel supply and installation constraints. A national list of popular models cannot tell you whether a system will support your air conditioning, well pump or other priorities together. Start by deciding what you need during an outage, then have the installed system assessed.
Write down the appliances and equipment you want backed up. Include large loads such as air conditioning, pumps and cooking equipment, and tell the assessor which loads are essential. An electrical load assessment is more useful than choosing a generator by square footage or a single appliance rating.
Permanent standby or portable?
A permanently installed standby generator is connected through transfer equipment and designed to respond automatically when utility power fails. A portable generator is a different product and operating arrangement. If you want an installed standby system for your home, compare complete systems and installation scopes. If you need portable equipment, our sales and repair service will not be the right fit.

Ask how the proposed configuration will handle your actual loads, and what is included in the written quote. A higher output rating alone does not answer every question about suitability, installation or ongoing care.
Fuel and placement are part of the decision
Tell the assessor whether your property has natural gas or propane and where the existing equipment is located. The fuel route, electrical connections, access and proposed generator position all belong in the site review. Bring a survey if you have one, and share any association requirements before design work begins.
Requirements vary by property and permitting authority. A neighbour’s installation is useful context, but its layout and approvals do not determine yours. Our installation page explains the assessment, design, permitting and installation process.
Compare complete quotes and ongoing care
Look beyond the generator itself. Review the pad, transfer switch, fuel work, electrical work, permits, testing and any site-specific exclusions in each quote. Ask who handles changes and what the expected schedule depends on. Keep the written scope so you can compare the same work across installers.
Maintenance remains part of owning the system. Compare our maintenance plans, and ask which services apply to the equipment being proposed. If an existing system has a fault, request diagnosis or repair before assuming a replacement is necessary.
